Touchdown in Alaska!

This is pretty cool -- a post virtually mid-flight. Since my flight stops in Anchorage for about an hour and a half, the other passengers and I are free to avail ourselves of this airport's free wireless access. Our flight was delayed about an hour for departure, so I'm not sure how the time delay will work out. Will we have only half an hour in Alaska, or will we arrive to Taiwan an hour late? Who knows. There was wonderful service on the airplane -- good food, lots of offers of water and juice, and even little pillows, blankets, and slippers for each seat in economy!! Not too bad, especially compared to a certain other airline I've flown in the past....

Of course, I wasn't able to get a whole lot of sleep on the plane, but that's all right. Here in Alaska it is 4:28 AM on July 2nd, at home in New York it is 8:28 AM, and in Taiwan it is 8:28 PM on July 2nd. I am scheduled to land in Taipei at 6:05 AM on July 3rd (6:05 PM on July 2nd back home, 10:05 PM on July 2nd in Alaska), which means that no matter how much I do or do not sleep, I will be the owner of one profoundly confused biological clock. At any rate, the Anchorage airport is pretty cool -- there are stuffed buffalo heads on the wall and the snack shop sells "reindeer dogs." Watching the land, water, and clouds below us was pretty exciting as we drew in for landing -- a pretty dramatically different landscape from the one I'm used to, and even more different from the one we will eventually reach.

Kevin and I will be met at the Taipei Airport by two students (named Julie and, inexplicably, Anderson) who will escort us to the campus in Taichung. We'll have a day to relax, nap, buy basic items (like shampoo and an alarm clock), and tour campus. Classes begin on the 4th at 8:00 AM (which for readers back home equates to the 3rd at 8:00 PM). We'll have two days of class (Wednesday and Friday) before Kevin and I head back up to Taipei for a real live Taiwanese wedding -- I can't wait!!!

Whoops -- looks like we might need to reboard now. More later!!
